Door-to-door delivery
In case of the door-to-door delivery system, the cargo is transported from the consigner’s warehouse to the final destination point (the consignee’s warehouse) by the single logistics company. Thus, since the goods are received from the consigner and until they are handed to the consignee (including handling operations), the single forwarder is responsible for delivery process and the cargo safety.
The door-to-door delivery system includes the following services:
- Preparation of consignment notes and waybills
- Drawing up of a logistics route
- Handling operations at railway stations and terminals
- Pick up of the cargo at the consigner’s warehouse and delivery to the consignee’s warehouse
- Reporting to the client about the cargo condition en route
- Cargo storage and consolidation services
- Customs clearance (when necessary)
Means of transport
The choice of means of transport for the transportation depends on the cargo type, size, and weight, preferred delivery time, transport accessibility, as well as the client’s budget. To organize complex routes, multimodal container transportation is used. In this case, the goods are transported by several types of transport: rail, trucks, sea, and air.
Advantages of the door-to-door system
In case of the door-to-door transportation system, the client does not have to search for additional contractors for multimodal transportation. To organize this system, the forwarder draws up an optimal logistic scheme that makes it possible to reduce delivery time. This type of cargo transportation releases clients from obligations to draw up documentation for multimodal transportation of special cargoes. The forwarder is the one to negotiate delivery and receive all the required permitting documents (including permits for transportation of oversize and heavy cargo). The cargo is escorted by the company’s representative at every stage of transportation, who is responsible for it along the entire route, which makes it possible to minimize an opportunity of loss or damage of the transported property.
